About Us

BAM! is not a typical music school! The Bulverde Academy of Music, BAM!, is a unique music instructional facility located at 28152 HWY 281 in the Hill Country Square shopping area. We offer serious music lessons, with an emphasis on live performances in several genres.

At BAM!, our instructors are all accomplished professional musicians with a combined stage performance history that is decades long. Our curricula cover all spectrums of the live performance fields which include Bluegrass, Country, Western Swing, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Fusion and Orchestral/Classical. We offer music lessons that cover Violin, Viola, Cello, Electric Bass, Upright Bass, Drums (Kit and Marching), Piano, Guitar, Voice, Sax, Trombone, Tuba, Trumpet, Steel Guitar, Breakdown & Western Swing Fiddling. Along with applied live performance techniques, we teach harmony & music theory, composition and transposition.

Our Objective

The BAM! objective is to provide students with an individualized program designed to provide the best over-all advancement opportunities and that means being flexible rather than rigid in our approach. So, we teach by notation as well as playing by ear. We have developed teaching methodologies that combine the traditional with methods that are uniquely our own.

BAM! features our own String Orchestra, String Quartet, Horn Ensemble, Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Fiddle Group, Percussion Group and several Lab Bands in many genres (Bluegrass, Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Latin, etc.). Students are able to compete for positions in these groups.

Latest News

BAM would like to welcome and announce our four newest instructors, Bobby Jarzombek on Drums, Ron Jarzombek on Electric Guitar, John Isaacks on Acoustic Guitar, and Luis Berrios on Classical Guitar.

Bobby Jarzombek is “an illusionist on the drum kit.  It’s effortless and entertaining, and he’s just brilliant,” is how Judas Priest legend Rob Halford once described his first visual encounter of the San Antonio, Texas born and raised percussionist.  Bobby has played on over 2 dozen albums and toured most of the world many times over, from Europe to Australia and South American to Japan and even China.  He has recorded and toured with greats such as Halford, Sebastian Bach, Rob Rock, and John West. He has been featured in Modern Drummer, as well as, other publications from around the world.  He has put together his very own drum instructional video and provided drum tracks for the Oscar-nominated animated feature, ‘Monster House’.  “We are very proud to have Bobby on staff and I highly recommend him for any serious drum students in the area.” – BAM Founder, Robert Flores, Jr.

Ron Jarzombek, brother of Bobby, is also a world known musician.  He has been heralded as one of the most innovative musicians in progressive metal circles.  As a teen, Ron joined local legends S.A. Slayer, then hooked up with Austin based fusion metal trailblazers WatchTower, which provided his involvement in the recording of the ‘Control And Resistance” album, lauded as one of “The Top Ten Shred Albums of the 80’s” by Guitar World Magazine.  Having completed successful European and American tours and recording numerous albums, Ron is known as a premier composer and instrumentalist in the world of progressive music.  It is understandable why Ron was voted ‘Best Guitarist’ in San Antonio’s The Edge Magazine and is one of the most instantly recognizable guitarists around.  “Ron is an excellent instructor and studying with him is a very rewarding experience.  We are excited and honored to have both Jarzombek brothers on board.”  - BAM Founder, Robert Flores, Jr.

John Isaacks has been involved in music from an early age, including piano, violin and guitar.  He is a Trinity University graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree, with a concentration in Guitar.  While at Trinity John traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, and Eastern Europe performing with various University sponsored ensembles and choirs.  Since then he travel and plays for the San Antonio based country/rock band Morning.  “John comes from a family of musicians and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.  John is a very valuable addition to our staff here at BAM and he always passes along his enjoyment of music to the students.” – BAM Founder, Robert Flores, Jr.

Luis Berrios certainly realized his dream of becoming an accomplished classical guitarist.  Born in Puerto Rico, Luis attended the University of Puerto Rico and then studied classical guitar at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, and later was accepted in the Composition Department of the Conservatory.  Luis has played solo at many famous places and events in Puerto Rico, including the Governor’s House.  He is also a talented composer and unlike other musicians Luis has blended classical, pop, and jazz into one unique personal style. “It is such a privilege to have such a talented and compassionate guitarist in our guitar department here at BAM.  Luis is truly a gifted musician and kindhearted person.” – BAM Founder, Robert Flores, Jr.
